The blog name
When I was growing up, several of the roads in my county were called “Route” something. As a child, I used to dream of living on a road with a “real” name. (For me, a real name was any name that had the word “street” in it.) I thought that people whose roads had real names were a step above us country folks.
My childhood dreaming says a lot about the relative invisibility of rural Americans and the condescension they face. A lot of people think that you have to be from a large metropolitan area to have a critical mind and think deeply about things. Naming the blog “Route 3” was my way of saying that everyone has a mind and a right to have their thoughts heard, no matter where they come from.
As a writer and librarian, I strive to empower people with information and promote positive social change.
