The Words: Falling

Fall down seven times, stand up eight.”

-Japanese proverb

When I was a child, I craved light, music, and laughter. They were my life force during rough, uncertain times, as crucial to my survival as water or air. There were times when I fell on the way to their comfort, but I never stopped running toward them, never stopped seeking joy. Today, when I get scared of falling, I try to think about what it felt like to be that small child reaching for light, running, tripping up, falling, crying, sitting still, listening, learning a new thing. I run through my fear and reach for the wonder inside the uncertainty. Sometimes I fall, hard, hard, hard. But I always get back up.-Stacy Torian
